On the edge of Detroit, USA, is a rather special family and their rather special car collection. But the vehicles (mostly Fords, but not all) in the Roush Automotive Collection aren’t just any old cars collected by Jack Roush and his family. Rather, they’re race cars that his ultra-successful NASCAR team has taken to ‘Victory Lane’ and road cars that his eponymous tuning company has built. Add in a smattering of cars the family has restored or competed in, and you’ve got an amazing array of fast metal. FIRST LOOK: Lamborghini Temerario – 907bhp, Turbo V8 Hybrid, 10,000rpm!
The arrival of the new Temerario – a replacement for the Huracán – now means Lamborghini offers all its models with hybrid powertrains. Hmmm… But fret not, for this is Lambo’s take on hybridisation. So, while the Huracán's naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 has been swapped for a mere 4.0-litre V8, it has gained twin turbos and over 150bhp in the process. And, just for good measure, Lamborghini has allied it to not one, not two, but three electric motors, for a 907bhp total. That, and compared to the now-defunct V10, the forced-induction V8 revs higher. To the tune of 10,000rpm! Still want that six-cylinder McLaren Artura or Ferrari 296 GTB? FIRST DRIVE: Ford GT Mk IV - $1.7m, 800bhp Ultimate American Supercar!
This is the ultimate incarnation of the third-generation Ford GT – and a homage to the Mk IV iteration of the original GT40, which won Le Mans in 1967. Fittingly, this new Mk IV is a track-only, pseudo-race car, of which just 67 will be built, at a price of $1.7m each. It shares its carbonfibre chassis with the GT road car and 2016 Le Mans-winning LMGTE Pro race car, but the brakes are new, the ‘longtail’ body is new and the EcoBoost V6 has been enlarged to 3.8 litres. Together with new turbos and a host of other engine changes, peak power rises to a plentiful 800bhp. FIRST LOOK: 2025 Corvette ZR1 – 1064hp, Turbos & 215mph!
Wow, the new Corvette ZR1 is quite something. For a start, one thousand and sixty-four horsepower is nothing short of A LOT. In fact, it’s nearly 400 more than the Corvette Z06, and higher than the likes of the Ferrari SF90 XX, let alone hybrid-assisted hypercars such as the McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918. And yet, all that power comes from a solitary 5.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V8, with not a jot of a hybrid system in sight.
