Mercedes is gearing up to offer its CLA as a Shooting Brake, making the latest entry-level model no less than the German luxury manufacturer's first-ever electric estate.
Sales begin in the coming weeks with prices in Mercedes' home market starting at €48,250 for the electric version, the manufacturer announced on Wednesday.
Like the four-door coupé saloon, the Shooting Brake will also be available as a hybrid petrol model, with prices starting at €44,279, Mercedes said.
Compared with the standard four-door CLA, Mercedes has extended the roof on the Shooting Brake and added a steep rear end. This increases the boot to 455 litres and it can be expanded to 1,290 litres by folding down the rear seat backrest. There is also around 100 litres of storage space in the so-called frunk under the front bonnet.
Nothing changes in terms of the powertrain: The estate also launches as the CLA 200 with 224 hp (165 kW) and 58 kWh for a standard range of 525 kilometres.
Alternatively, there is the CLA 250+ with 272 hp (200 kW) and an 85 kWh battery for a standard range of 769 kilometres, or the CLA 350, in which two motors deliver a combined 354 hp (260 kW) and the battery is rated for 743 kilometres.
For those reluctant to go all in on electric, Mercedes is offering a hybrid in three power levels: alongside the 30 hp (22 kW) electric motor in the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine delivering either 136 hp (100 kW), 163 hp (120 kW) or 190 hp (140 kW). Mercedes is also offering the two more powerful models with all-wheel drive.
