MICHAEL SCHUMACHER’S RACE-WINNING FERRARI F2000 SET TO FETCH EYE-WATERING SUM

Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2000, which he drove to victory at the 2000 Brazilian GP, will be up for grabs in April.

The F2000 was a pivotal Formula 1 challenger in the rich history of Scuderia Ferrari, as this was the car which took Ferrari, and Schumacher too, back to the summit of Formula 1.

Over the season this Ferrari model claimed victory nine times with Schumacher at the wheel, the German racer taking the title with a margin of 19 points over McLaren’s Mika Hakkinen.

And now chassis 198 will be up for auction courtesy of RM Sotherby’s at ‘Sotheby’s Luxury Week’, taking place in Hong Kong from 1-5 April.

For those who wish to register and get involved in the bidding, you are going to need very deep pockets, as this chassis has an estimated valuation of between $7.5 million and $9.5 million.

Still, the lucky buyer would be getting an incredible piece of Formula 1 history for that rather mind-boggling price.

That is because chassis 198 was the one which Schumacher claimed his victory in at the Brazilian Grand Prix that year, the second round of the 2000 campaign. Originally the spare car there, this was called into action during qualifying after Schumacher had run wide earlier in the session and damaged the undercarriage of his initial car.

And after Schumacher drove chassis 198 to victory on the Sunday, later in the campaign it would be the chassis in use for Schumacher to claim his first pole position of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix, repeating that achievement at the Monaco Grand Prix, though a broken pushrod ultimately cost him the chance to covert that into race-day victory there.

The Austrian GP would prove to be the final appearance for chassis 198. It was repaired after damage was sustained in that race by result of a whack from BAR-Honda’s Ricardo Zonta, but it merely travelled the globe with Ferrari after that, seeing no further action in the season.

Since its Formula 1 retirement, this Ferrari F2000 has made further demo runs while privately owned, and offers the buyer the chance to own an incredibly unique piece of Formula 1 and Ferrari history.

It is also a very expensive piece of course, so maybe you and a few (thousand) friends could pool together to cough up the cash?
