$1 MILLION ADAM LEVINE LAWSUIT CLAIMS DEALERSHIP SOLD HIM FAKE MASERATI

Pop star Adam Levine has filed a lawsuit against a classic car dealer for allegedly selling him a fake Maserati worth $1 million, the New York Post reports.

A federal suit filed in California last week says Levine traded two of his classic Ferraris, a 1972 365 and a 1968 365, to high-end car dealer Rick Cole in exchange for a 1971 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 Liter Spyder and $100,0000. Except the Ghibli wasn't the real deal, according to the lawsuit.

The Ghibli 4.9 Spyder is among the rarest and most desirable Maseratis ever built, with just 45 examples known to have been built, according to RM Sotheby's.

The Maroon 5 frontman discovered his newly procured Maserati wasn't an authentic 4.9 when he tried to sell the car to New York dealer Autosport Designs, only to discover the dealership had sold a car with the same VIN number at some point in the past.

“Subsequent inspection and investigation revealed that the vehicle is not authentic,” the court documents allege.

“Cole egregiously never disclosed any of this... withholding this information in order to make substantial monies on the sale,” the lawsuit claims.

The suit goes on to claim that Cole knew about the car's sketchy identity and took steps to falsify its provenance. It alleges that Cole attempted to stop Levine from trying to sell the car because he “obviously feared that if [Levine] marketed the vehicle, it would eventually learn the truth concerning its lack of authenticity and corresponding decrease in market value."

The lawsuit alleges Cole refused to reverse the deal or pay Levine the equivalent purchase price of $850,000. The classic car dealer could not be immediately reached for comment when contacted by Road & Track.
